Award Description
F The predecessor of the IFA Best Men's Football Player of the Year Award was the World Player of the Year, which was awarded in 1991. In 2010, it was merged with the "France Football" Golden Ball Award to form the FIFA Golden Ball Award. Since 2016, the two parties have separated, and FIFA separately awards the FIFA Best Men's Football Player of the Year.
The selection cycle for the FIFA Player of the Year award is based on the player's performance between August 11, 2024 and August 2, 2025.
The FIFA Player of the Year selection criteria are based on competitive performance and the player's overall behavior on and off the field. This award allows fans to log on to FIFA's official website to vote. Fans will account for 25% of the weight in the vote, and national team coaches, national team captains, and media representatives will each have 25% of the weight.
