Michael Ray Richardson died of prostate cancer in Oklahoma on November 11, local time, at the age of 70. Richardson was selected with the fourth overall pick in the 1978 NBA draft. He played in the NBA for eight years, playing for the New York Knicks, Golden State Warriors and New Jersey Nets. He was selected to the NBA All-Star four times and won the league's interception title three times, nicknamed "Sugar".
His son Amir Richardson is a professional football player who currently plays for Fiorentina and the Moroccan national team.
