Goodwin: I worked at KFC and I faced more rejection than most people
6686 Sports News on November 13 Recently, Australian Super League star Goodwin accepted an interview with the Australian national team and talked about his journey of being selected for the national team and looking forward to the World Cup.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Judging from the current situation, my suggestion is to keep doing what you are doing! It’s hard to say because as you go deeper you realize there are so many different aspects involved. The most important thing is the mentality and energy level. Perhaps it is because of my own experience, such as having to leave my family, having to do various jobs, such as working at KFC, and working hard to make a living while also working hard to become a professional player. These experiences may make you more resilient.
I've probably had more rejections in my career than most players, although obviously every player will encounter it at some point, it's all about how you deal with it. Obviously, when you're at that stage, you want to reach the top, you want to play in the Premier League, you want to achieve all kinds of dreams. But I'm very happy with how my career is going and what I've accomplished, so I would just say, keep doing what you're doing.
Opinions on being selected for the national team and looking forward to the World Cup
I know very well that this may be my last chance to participate in the World Cup. I did have a World Cup experience that I will cherish forever. It was one of the most glorious moments in my career. The key is to strive to do better, reach new heights, and innovate for more memories. That's my goal, that's my motivation at the end of the season because I know this could be my last chance.
I know that due to my age, my opportunities to participate in international training camps are gradually decreasing. So I treat every training session as if it might be the last one and try my best to do my best. This is probably my attitude towards all international competitions. It's the only thing in your career that's always there and never fades, the thrill, the excitement, the nerves, all the energy that comes from representing your country. This may be the last chance to participate in the World Cup, which is really exciting.
Talk about his injuries
It is very disappointing to be able to participate in so many qualifying matches but miss the games with Japan and Saudi Arabia due to injury. But at the same time, you feel proud of the team and what we achieved, to qualify directly for the World Cup and be a part of it.
As my wife will probably confirm, I am optimistic to a fault. Of course, there will always be some negative things along the way. But I don’t think about them that much, and when I think about these things, I don’t have that thought or perspective. I'm the kind of player who always thinks about the positive outcome rather than the negative outcome, and of course, the negative outcome can happen, but if I keep thinking about the positive outcome and put energy into it, then the positive outcome is more likely to happen.
