Former NBA referee: FBI official reveals scandals can't be covered up now like they were then
6686 Sports, October 26th Recently, NBA player Rozier and coach Billups were arrested one after another, and were exposed to scandals such as illegal investments.
In a recent interview, former NBA referee Donaghy talked about related scandals in the NBA.
"I received a text message from an FBI official. He believed that this time there was no way to cover up the case like before. David Stern did lead the entire investigation before, but was eventually stopped by the top leadership." Donaghy said.
Donaghy has been working as a referee in the NBA since 1994. In 2007, he was investigated by the FBI for making illegal investments, using his status as a referee to manipulate games, and making profits for certain groups, while receiving remuneration for himself. He was eventually expelled from the NBA permanently and sentenced to 15 months in prison. Stern, who was the commissioner of the NBA at the time, publicly stated that Donaghy was an exception among NBA referees. The latter also compiled his thoughts into a book and published it after his release from prison.
